Testing the landing pages on your website can have a profound impact on your business\u2019s bottom line. Through small changes in text, design, and layouts, you can drastically improve the amount of time that visitors stay on a page, conversions, sales, or any other important area for your business.<\/p>\n

One of the great things about using Google Analytics is how simple it is to jump right in and start experimenting yourself. In this blog we\u2019ll walk you through setting up your own Google Experiment in just 6 easy steps. <\/p>\n

  1. Decide what you want to improve and measure. For this example, we\u2019ll be looking at testing the text on our free consultation form<\/a>. We\u2019ll want to create a duplicate version of the page with just the text being different. We can name this page free-consultation-a<\/em><\/strong>. We now have two versions of the page, free-consultation<\/em><\/strong> and free-consultation-a<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Open Google Analytics<\/a> and if you haven\u2019t already done so, sign up<\/strong>. Then use the left-hand navigation to scroll to \u201cBehavior\u201d and then \u201cExperiments.\u201d<\/li>\n

    Will a simple text change make a difference in driving more conversions?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    Click \u201cCreate experiment.\u201d Here you\u2019ll begin a simple walk-through process for setting up your landing page.<\/p>\n

    1. Give your experiment a descriptive name.<\/li>\n
    2. Select an objective. If you have goals already set and want to test improving these, you can select them from the list. Otherwise, select a variable under the \u201cSite Usage\u201d tab and see if you can improve your \u201cBounces,\u201d \u201cPageviews,\u201d or \u201cSession Duration.\u201d You can also create a new objective to track something else.<\/li>\n
    3. Select the percentage of traffic to experiment, and any other options you\u2019d like.<\/li>\n
    4. Once you\u2019ve completed this section, click \u201cNext Step\u201d where you\u2019ll configure your experiment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    5. Here you\u2019ll paste the link to your original page and name it, and then do the same for your test page and name it. Once complete, click \u201cNext Step.\u201d<\/li>\n
    6. Here you can decide whether you are savvy enough to insert the code yourself, or Google will generate an email you can send directly to your webmaster. Click \u201cNext Step\u201d again.<\/li>\n
    7. Here you can add any additional experiment notes, or if you\u2019re ready to begin your experiment click \u201cStart Experiment.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      That\u2019s it, your experiment is now off and running! Check back in a few weeks and see how your new page performed, or set up additional tests on separate pages. Testing provides you with valuable insight into what works and what won\u2019t work with your website.<\/p>\n
