Not only have they started asking mobile users to rate their mobile search results, but Google has also started displaying a label in the search engine ranking pages (SERPs) that tells the user whether or not the website listed is a \u201cmobile-friendly\u201d one. They\u2019ve even developed a <a href=\"https:\/\/search.google.com\/test\/mobile-friendly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tool to test whether or not your website is deemed \u201cmobile friendly.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"line-height: 24px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/mobile-friendly.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/mobile-friendly.jpg\" alt=\"Google's &quot;Mobile-Friendly&quot; Search Tag\" width=\"600\" height=\"397\" data-size=\"600x397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/mobile-friendly.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/mobile-friendly-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/mobile-friendly-120x80.jpg 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/> <\/a> <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">A website that is not mobile-friendly runs the risk of being penalized in the SERPs, as <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/webmasters.googleblog.com\/2014\/11\/helping-users-find-mobile-friendly-pages.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google has stated clearly on their Webmaster Central blog<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">: \u201cWe are also experimenting with using the mobile-friendly criteria as a ranking signal.\u201d They also point out here that your site must meet these criteria for it to be labeled \u201cMobile-friendly:\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoids unfriendly software, like Flash, since it isn\u2019t common on mobile devices<\/li>\n<li>Has a font that is large enough to read without zooming<\/li>\n<li>Properly scales to fit the device\u2019s screen without scrolling left or right<\/li>\n<li>Links are spaced and easy to tap on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are all focused on Google\u2019s central theme: user experience. If your website doesn\u2019t meet these standards, it won\u2019t receive the new label, and this puts you at risk for being penalized in organic rankings.
