No amount of flashy visuals, distracting animation, or trendy designs can save you from frequent page bounces if visitors to your site don\u2019t find meaningful content. But that\u2019s assuming you get visitors in the first place, which is largely determined by how you rank in search engines (hint: search engines are looking for good content, too). <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Statistics show a correlation between stale, insufficient, or irrelevant content and poor search engine rankings, in addition to high bounce rates. Although search engines like Google may be thought of as rather \u201crobotic\u201d in their use of advanced algorithms to return results, their process is intentionally becoming more human-like every day. In fact, we know Google measures content quality and ranks it accordingly. With this knowledge, we can assume that things like spelling and grammar are metrics that it uses to formulate its rankings, since \u201ccorrect\u201d content is part of what could constitute \u201cquality\u201d content. In addition to grammar, \u201cquality\u201d can involve detail, timeliness, relevance and even volume. A recent survey featured on inbound.org indicates that rankings favor both quality <i>and<\/i> quantity:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Content rich sites generate 97% more links<\/li>\n<li>Content that is greater than 1,500 words typically receive 68% more tweets and 22% more Facebook likes<\/li>\n<li>90% of consumers find detailed content useful<\/li>\n<li>Companies with an active blog receive 97% more leads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/seo-teamPic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-529\" title=\"The Sharp SEO Team\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/seo-teamPic-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"seo-teamPic\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" data-size=\"500x284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/seo-teamPic-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/seo-teamPic.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sharpinnovations.com\/blog\/2014\/03\/themes-replacing-keywords-as-king-of-search-engine-optimization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent blog<\/a> post, we discussed how \u201cthemes\u201d have now replaced \u201ckeywords\u201d as the preferred and more effective way to rank with search engines and drive traffic to your site. The lesson to be learned from this is that if Google can detect \u201cspammy,\u201d awkward, stale, and forced content, and consider it less favorable than its natural, fresh, and themed counterparts, then content really is important! Which leads to the obvious: if Google\u2019s search algorithm can determine well written content, then why not provide it?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cThe real wins come through content \u2014 powerful, eye-popping, mind-blowing, epic, killer, clickable, actionable, shareable, even edible content.\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/may-2014-four-ways-seo-drastically-changing\/104595\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> \u2013<\/a><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.searchenginejournal.com\/may-2014-four-ways-seo-drastically-changing\/104595\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>The Search Engine Journal.&#8221;<\/i><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Delivering answers to the most common questions users have as they visit your site is a good first order of business when developing good content. In particular, answering the \u201chow and why do I need this product or service\u201d are good areas in which to focus. Well written and up-to-date messaging can also make it easier for visitors to navigate your site, relate to you on a more personal and emotional level, and understand the value of your product or service.
